Do you like Lifetime Fitness and their features? I am a member and although I enjoy the gym, I find some of their training programs a little overpriced, along with the MAP test. Has anyone taken the MAP test at Lifetime and found their results useful? What about the Polar Heart Rate Monitors they are always advertising? Useful?

I work out in a gym..I use the treadmill and lift weights. Sometimes I do cardio at home as well, on my bike or elliptical. I do not know which HRM to purchase. I heard Polar is good, but I do not know which model to buy. Do I need one with a chest strap? Which do you prefer?
www.CoachU2Health.com I never start a workout without one and if you don’t own one run to the store and get one NOW! I perfer the heart monitor that tracks calories.
So im a rower, and we all just bought these heart rate monitors and we are told that we have to train within certain heart rate zones. However, my heart rate sky rockets during even light training. e.g i was struggling to get my heart rate below 160 with a 500m split of about 2.40 on a rowing machine. Whereas totally ignoring the heart rate monitor i could hold a 500m split of 2.05 forever.
So really how effective is training to heart rate zones in increasing fitness because after what i have just described, i have my doubts.
I know the wrist monitor is rechargeable, but was wondering about the heart rate chest strap. Is the battery in it replaceable or do you have to send it off for replacement as the many chest straps I have owned in the past only last between 1 1/2 to 2 years. Also, when you download your info on the site does your running course with street names automatically load?

I ran for about 15 minutes on an eliptical with a constant speed of like 8 to 11 mph. Then I did some bench presses and sit ups, following this, I ran for about 15 more minutes resulting in about 5 or so miles. I need my heart rate for a PE fitness log for schoool and I dint take it yet and I did a cool down after running so it wont be accurate after that.
I’m anxious about using a heart rate monitor during one of my college classes next week. I’m thinking of skipping it if it could be dangerous. I don’t like the idea of electrodes being tied to my chest, I actually had this done when I joined a gym last year, they strapped it to my chest, while the instructor wore the watch, but now I am frightened by the idea that electrical signals are being send to my heart to monitor how fast it is beating. Are heart rate monitors completely safe? Or can those electrical signals damage or throw off the heart in any way?

For the last ~2 months, I’ve been experiencing bradycardia, HR 45-49. This is new for me, previously I ran about 75 bpm. I bought a fitness heart rate monitor after I noticed the brady (took my pulse because I felt "heavy" in the chest). The heart rate will come up with exercise but even with the most vigorous effort can’t get it above 140 bpm. I’m not an athlete nor especially fit. No dizziness, +/- fatigue. Anyone experience anything similar?
I am looking for a good heart rate monitor. I want it to be just a wristwatch. My wife has to continuously monitor her heart rate and I want a wristwatch for that job. I have been looking at a few but the problem is that they either come with an aditional chest strap or they are very complicated because they messure other things. I am interested on heart rate and time. The rest is not that important but it may have other things. Please help me find it. Thanks in advance.

I was on an elliptical machine about a week ago and checked my heart rate using the monitor on the machine. It was about 194. (I was feeling it, too – believe me.) Is it ever good for it to get that high? Everything I’ve seen on the web seems to advise keeping it under 190.
I’m about 6’2", 180 lbs., mid-20s, if it makes any difference.
I take Group Groove cardio dance class at my YMCA and I’d like to track the calories I burn in my daily fitness diary. Has anyone used a heart rate monitor during one of these classes and gotten an idea of how many calories you can burn during an average 1 hour class?
