life fitness elliptical machine calories burned?

I use a life fitness machine for about 55 minutes a day my heart rate is about 150 after 25 minutes the machine says im burning about 850 calories but im being told there is no way i could be burning that much do you think this is true

will it be damaged when going under the scanner?

I just bought the Polar FT1 HR monitor and was a little discouraged when I couldn’t view my current heart rate. Instead I have to wait for the beap to know when I’ve reached my target HR zone. Before I return it and get a new one, I was curious as to if this is a standard feature with most HR monitors, and if I’m going to have any luck finding a replacement that had potentially both a display of the current heart rate, and notifies me when I reach my target HR.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Ex smoker, advice on symptoms?

Ok so, I was a smoker for roughly two years, I smoked quite heavy 15 to 30 in a day.

Quit 1st November 2009. So now its been 3 and Half months.

Now I wake up every morning with a sour throat, not sore, sour. Phlegmy however clears up quite quickly as long as I spit it out, however, during the day it can re-occur randomly, and lasts often. Feel like I need to gasp for air at night when sleeping. Doctor gave amoxcillin to clear up throat issue, it has reduced however not cleared.

I’m not over weight, even when I was a smoker, I would jog 3 to 4 miles 4or5 times a week. I have however since quit smoking, not been training as much. At times, when I maybe go for a jog and so on, I will cough up bits of that black stuff.

Ehum sometimes little beige colour solid can come up when I cough, extremely rare however, and it is solid but soft, a bit like those "little" nut dips things, you put on ice-cream, however a little smaller and rare ofc.

I mean I can understand the sour throat etc, but why am I gasping for a breath of air, even during the day now and again, when I am actually able to run for 45mins +

I haven’t really monitored my resting heart beat, but when I was smoking back around september/october 09, I had a resting heartbeat even then of about 48-54..Ofc a little less training now and about half stone increase in weight.. So maybe a little higher heart rate etc but jheez I shouldn’t be gasping for breath should I?
The black stuff is not due to where I live, it is to do with the smoking, 100% sure on that. I see the logic behind the nugget things however, because the two years I smoked, I got quite bad cold infections, which caused me to cough blood, and it had become normal for me to cough blood when I got the cold, which i’d get often. This has been the first year since, I haven’t got the cold.. Which is a suprise..Thanks for the information on the beige nugget things, and the dairy product thing.
As goes for the gasping etc, i’m not really a drama queen over this stuff, I went cold turkey and quit first time on the cigs, including "hubba bubba/shisha/Hookah". Neither do I have nightmares about anything in fact, but I guess I have noticed one thing, My nose begins to block up once i’ve got to bed, but this wouldn’t explain why it happens randomly through the day aswell..

Do they work? Including made in China from eBay. I mean Heart Rate Counter. Thank you.

I have a balance board and the game Wii Fit, but I was looking for something a little different that might be a little more challenging or just gets my heart rate up a little more. I will be jogging on the side if that has anything to do with this decision. Just looking for something extra to do at night.

Ok, thanks for coming in. The topic of this story is biodiversity. 1000 word lenght. I’m 14, by the way. If you do take the time to read this and comment, thanks, really appreciated. If not, thanks for reading this far anyways.

Its name was Jack. The name of the last kangaroo in Australia.

The year is 2050. 40 years ago, kangaroos were common. You couldn’t see them everywhere, but they were common enough. Nowadays, you’d be lucky to find a skeleton of one. Their species is, for all intents and purposes, extinct. It began with the dingo; their population had exploded over the last four years. Scientists are still debating the cause of such a boom. Maybe it was the temperature increase, but no one really knows. Added to that is the drought that has plagued Australia for a few years and killed off most of the plants that kangaroos feed on. Whatever the reason, kangaroos have all but died off.
****
John Major sat in his exclusive office. He was one of Australia’s best lawyers. But this time, he wasn’t representing a person, or a group. He was representing an entire species. The papers came a week ago. It was a formal request from the government itself.
He sat there, lost in this train of thought until his assistant knocked onto the door.
“Enter,”
“Mr. Major, the cloning draft law you requested has arrived.”
“Very well, please bring it in.”
Cloning was outlawed a few years ago, in wake of the Moornennan disaster. Nowadays, it was only used in special cases, extinction cases. However, even those have to be successfully signed off, usually by the UN national court. The world was determined that there would not be a repeat of the tragedy.
Tomorrow, he will be presenting his case to the UN court assembly. He’d better get his work together to have a shot at winning this.

There was no doubt about it. Jack, the last kangaroo, was dying. In his exclusive recuperation room in the Darwin hospital, Maria hooked Jack up to the machine. It will automatically take heartbeat readings, body temperature, and a whole other lot of readings that were essential in keeping the body alive. She consulted her handbook.
“Let’s see….. normal heartbeat rate for kangaroo is…. 200 to 300 beats per minute.” She glanced at the monitor. Jack’s heart was pumping out 270 beats per minute. Normal. She pressed the diagnose button. Nothing came out on the monitor, but at the lab, a detailed diagnosis and a list of all medicines needed to be taken would be printed out. However, any fatal diseases or infections detected will be displayed immediately on the screen. Believing all is well, Maria exited the exam room.
****
“Maria!”
Maria glanced backwards, and saw who it was. Heather Grendale, the hospital’s nurse, ran up to Maria and passed to her a piece of paper.
“The patient has an abnormally high heart rate.”
“What?”
Maria took the piece of paper and read it.
“But its heart rate is fine. 270 beats per minute…”
“But then why did……………oh. Was the patient human?”
“No….. it’s a kangaroo.”
“Kangaroos! I thought they were extinct.”
“Well, they obviously aren’t….”
“I see, but then why didn’t the machine….ahhhh….Oh dear, I believe the technicians have forgotten to calibrate the machine correctly. Thus, it must have measured the patient as if it were human………………. eh? Where’d she go?”
She was speaking to an empty corridor. Maria was gone.

Maria ran through the hallways as a cold and unshakeable feeling of dread manifested itself in her stomach. She elbowed a nurse out of the way as she ran towards the tech room. Once she was there, she startled a technician who was dozing in his chair.
“Can I see the logs for the machine in room 8988? Date, a few hours ago…”
“Wha…wher…ummm…. who are you lady?”
Maria fished her personnel card from her pocket. The technician took a cursory glance, and began typing on his computer.
“Ok. Here it is.”
Reading the screen, Maria found the log.
“Computer, read log entry 20,198 please.”
“Certainly,” replied the computer. “Human scan at 1215 hours on the 23rd of March. Patient room 8988, machine 18.”
After hearing this, Maria instructed the tech to recalibrate the machine, and headed for Jack’s room. Once inside, she hooked up the machine. After checking that the calibration was correct, she pressed the diagnose button. The dread building in her stomach unleashed itself, and she gripped the bedframe for support as she read the words on the screen.

-Terminal infection detected-

Then, her phone rang.

****
Still reeling by the machine’s diagnosis, Maria flicked her handphone open.
“Hello?”
“You may begin.”
It was John! That must have meant he won the case!
These were the words Maria was waiting for. Pausing to look back at the gently snoring kangaroo, she ran to the hastily fabricated clonin

Garmin 301 Forerunner?

Does any one have the Garmin 301 Forerunner and what issues problems have you had specifically with the Heart Rate Monitor HRM, the strap, and the unit in monitoring heart Rate? In reading reviews of this item, the most often mentioned issue with the unit is the HRM function. It’s not reliable and gives all sorts of reading that are off base. Some people seem to report lots of issues, others very few. Does any one have one, and what issues have you had with the HRM. I am considering buying one in the near future.

Arduino ECG EKG Heart rate monitor circuit prototype

Prototype of the first part of my latest project which is an Arduino ECG heart rate monitor. This circuit uses electrodes connected to the human body, amplifies the signal using an instrumentation amplifier, filters the signal then sends it to the Arduino. The arduino then calculates the effective heart rate. This is just a prototype of small part of my project. Future goals include: -Sending the data via wireless to single receiver, allowing more than one device to monitor then transmit. Most likely, I will be using the Xbee to do this. -Receiver would be connected to a PC and communicate using USB or Serial. -Create a program, probably based on processing, that would display the heart rate and log it into a database according to each patient. Program would also issue warnings if the heart rate is dangerously high or low for a specific person. Pls feel free to leave comments or ask questions. Ok. Last year I lost 45 lbs by doing cardio at the gym several times a week and eating really clean calorie wise at 1000-1200 calories a day. I was 5’8" and 230 lbs at 32 years old. I got down to 185 in about three months. Well, this winter I gained a lot of the weight back (was up to 225) and I do not want to do that anymore ever again!

So now I am back and I have done the same things as last year. I just lost about 15lbs so far and I really want to do all of the right things to maximize my loss amounts over the next 6 weeks (I have a trip I am going on then and want to look my best.)

So what exactly should I be doing to maximise my efforts?

Eat no more than XXX or no less than XXX amount of calories a day?

When doing cardio, should I stay at a certain heartrate, no more or no less and how long per session, 45minutes? An hour? How many days per week? I do use a heart rate monitor.

I believe in calories in/calories out and that indeed does work for me as well.

best heart rate monitor for a fair price?

hey everybody i’ve been doing the p90x workout for about a month now and i really need a HRM for my heart rate and also help see how many calories i’m burning per workout. i’m looking for something with the watch display and chest strap i’ve heard those are more accurate and something reasonably priced so if anybody has some suggestions i’m all ears thanks.

1. The resting heart rate is lower
2. The increase in BP from supine to upright is higher
3. The change in cardiac rate is lower immediately after exercise
4. The return of cardiac rate to resting value after exercise is faster

If you could give a website/link, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Heart palpitations and scare to death?

there’s something that has been bothering me for sometime, I’m 16 weeks pregnant, and i don’t know why i keep having this heart palpitations i went 2 weeks ago to the ER for the same reason and they said it was my potassium that was a tiny bit low, nothing to worried. ithe DID a few EKG a all of them abnormal cuz my heart were up and down in a matter of second

They gave me 4 pills and that’s all, i though it was my thyroid acting up cuz i have a thyroid disorder but they check on that oat the ER the same say and it wasn’t that.
I decide it to buy a blood pressure monitor and i have been using it every time i feel palpitations, i keep getting normal blood pressure reading, But my heart rate fluctuate from 70 beat to to 100 in minutes, i can feel my pulse everywhere in my body when that happen, i don’t know what to do anymore, I feel that i breath heavily when that happen, and my heart hurt a bit after some time of this happening, what’s going on? its this normal? its the pregnancy causing all this?:(

what is causing my shortness of breath?

I was training for a triathlon (have done them in the past) when two weeks before the race one night I awoke out of a deep sleep extremely short of breath and dizzy. It really scared me. I took my blood pressure it was 110/80 and pulse was 44. I tried to get back to sleep, but still didn’t feel right. I ended up going to the ER. They did labs, checked for a blood clot, EKG, cxray, vitals…everything came back negative, except my heart rate remained low in the 40′s and 50′s. The docs weren’t concerned (said, oh you are in great shape, training for a triathlon that is why your heart rate is slow)…Prior to this episode and since my heartrate has been in the 70′s and 80′s. Anyways, since then I have seen a cardiologist (had 2 EKG’s) a holtor monitor, cxray, pulmonary function test and thyroid panel. Everything has come back negative. Does anyone have a clue what could cause continual breathlessness( always feel like I have to yawn), tingling in the arms, fullness in throat?

Timex GPS running watches?

I need to buy a GPS running watch, it has to be timex, so don’t recommend a different brand. I run cross country, so I need a watch that will tell me distance, pace, and time. (I don’t really care about heart rate) I was wondering if anyone can recommend a watch OTHER THAN THE GLOBAL TRAINER. Also, do you have to use a clip on thing for the distance to work? Will it work if I don’t wear the heart rate monitor?

Thanks

BodyBugg Heart Rate Monitor/Calorie Counter?

I have been looking into getting a heart rate monitor that counts my calories. Searching online I have seen the BodyBugg pop up a lot. It looks like a very good product, but it is also very pricey. I was wondering if anyone knows of another product that I could wear throughout the day to see how many calories I burn. I don’t want to spend too much money.
But my main concern is that I want it to be pretty accurate about counting my calories, and I want to wear it all day long.
Any suggestions?

here’s the question:

A cardiac monitor is used to measure the heart rate of a patient after surgery. It compiles the number of heartbeats after t minutes. When the data in the table are graphed, the slope of the tangent line represents the heart rate in beats per minute.

t(min) : 36, 38, 40, 42, 44
heartbeats: 2530, 2661, 2806, 2948, 3080

The monitor estimates this value by calculating the slope of a secant line. Use the data to estimate the patient’s heart rate after 42 minutes using the secant line between the points with the given values of t.

(a) t=36 and t=42
(b) t=38 and t=42
(c) t=40 and t=42
(d) t=42 and t=44

What are your conclusions?

I don’t understand how to do this at all. I’ve tried to figure it out but I don’t really get it. Help?

polar watch? store or online only?

does any one know if polar heart rate monitor watches are sold in stores or if you can only buy them online.. and a place to get the best deal?

I can't raise my heart rate.?

I have recently started watching my heart rate while working out in order to try to maintain my training heart rate (approx. 145-155 bpm). The highest I can get my heart rate to climb to is 135, and that only lasts about five minutes. Once I hit the five minute mark, my heart rate drops down to 100- bpm, and I cannot get it to go back up nomatter how hard I try.

Is this healthy? I’m in the military, and I’m in good shape (as far as I know). I do pretty well on my fitness tests… Could I have heart problems at my age (19)?
