Hello, yesterday I decided to measure my heart rate during ice hockey training. It turns out that during a 1.5 h training session my average heart rate was 169 bpm and the maximum was 205 bpm. I used a polar heart rate monitor and the highest heart rate zone is set to around 175 bpm. Am I training at a too high intensity? When we played scrimmage, my heart rate went up to 185-200 bpm, and during shifts I recovered quickly to around 130 bpm. I would be grateful if anyone could shift some light on this data for me.
Thanks!!
Oh, and my age is 28.
I joined a gym a little while ago and have not seen any results. My workout routine is mostly cardio since I am trying to just lose weight right now. Does my heart rate play a big role in seeing results? If so what should it be? I am 19 weight 230lbs height 5’6. Usually when I do cardio I am just focusing on sweating not so much anything else. If anyone has some advice please help.
I heard that some heart rate monitors work with just the watch and don’t need the strap across your chest. Is this correct? If so, are they as accurate as one which has the chest strap? I am thinking that the strap would be too uncomfortable for me.

Im looking at buying a basic heart rate monitor watch. I am not sure what is the best brand to use. I want a watch in which i don’t have to replace battery, and it can accessories with a footpod, so i can measure my distance. I was looking at garmin but i am not sure which brand to trust. Advice please.
I have been training my aerobic fitness for the past few months to help my tennis game. So I played my first tournament last weekend and I put on the heart rate monitor so I could gauge my heart rate and my heart rate was already in the 160s. I was alittle nervous and excited to be playing, but normally my heart rate is below 100 before activity. Even once I got warmed up and into the match my heart rate never recovered. Could be be due to nerves alone? I played a 2 hour match and never got fatigued and my legs felt fresh, so the training seemed to help but surely it would be even better if my heart rate didn’t start out that high?
Thanks for your time and any advice you have!
Also if it maybe nerves any tips to address that?

My cardiac doctor suggested buying a polar HR monitor to keep a track on my heart rate while exercizing. I looked online and felt incredibly confused by all the options that these monitors have. Basically, I plan on exercizing, walking at first, perhaps some water sports and biking towards the start of summer. I need one that will work with all three of the said sports. Also, I was told about a chest strap that my doc said I should have, do the monitors come with that? Do they have a manufactures warranty?
Please tell me all the perks to having the monitor.
Thank you!
I am looking for a heart rate monitor/watch that doesn’t need any straps or anything. Just the watch/monitor on my wrist, is there anything that exists out there?

Hey all im starting to go for some longish distance runs to get fitter for soccer as i play midfield. Do you reccomend getting a heart rate monitor? Also what type just a watch type? Cheers
I’ve just bought an Olympus exercise bike with a digital display for distance, heart rate etc but it has no instructions with it. Does anyone know how to change KMs to miles on the monitor – its really annoying me cos I can’t work it out. Even better would be a link to the download the manual from – i can’t find one anywhere!!
Cheers
The model no of the bike is OS-11201 & the model no of the monitor is AD-3006.
I currently use a polar heart rate monitor for tracking calories burned while working out. I would like to track calories burned all day with a bodybugg but not if I can’t just track my progress on my own. Do you need to have a subscription to the website or is that just an extra option?
Im not a professional runner, and don`t want to spend a lot of money, just need a strap that would measure my heart rate. Which brand is good?
i was on the life cycle this is a bike with computer tests for your fitness. i am 40 and my target heart rate for fat burn is 117 and my target heart rate for cardio is 144 one time i keped my heart rate at around 117 to about 125 for the five minute test and it said verry poor. so the next time i brought it up to 144 to 150 for the five minute test and it still said very poor. my fitness level went from a 10 to twelve its hard to get your heart rate up when the peddles spin so fast that your feet fall off. is this an accurate test. what should i do if it is
www.heartratewatchcompany.com – The Polar FT40 truly is a weight loss watch that is a heart rate monitor because it guides you to the proper intensity to burn fat. Fat burning is actually done at lower intensity than aerobic exercise and this heart rate monitor helps you see the difference clearly.
I’m a 14 year old girl, 5’1” and 110 pounds, and the weight doesn’t sound that bad but it’s distributed weirdly. My arms and upper body are really thin, like my wrists are bony and my collarbone sticks out, but my stomach and thighs have a lot of fat: my stomach fat sticks out a bit and is really noticable when I bend over, like you can see the rolls. My thighs don’t look too big when I’m standing, but when I sit down they ‘squish’ outward. In gym class we use heart rate monitors, and even though I don’t get out of breath too easily my heart rate gets really high when I exercise. We also did body fat in gym, and mine was 22% (I think up to 25% is normal). So what do you think?

I already have a Polar Heart Rate Transmitter Belt, but I can’t find any Polar receivers wrist watches online for a reasonable price! I’m talking 40 dollars…?
Thank YOU.
My 6 month old son wears an Apnea monitor, only when he is sleeping during the night. (He wears it because of the sudden loss of our first son, and because he also has breath holding spells.) During the night, he has started to grab the wires from the electrodes and pull them out. Of course, this sets of the Loose-Lead alarm. The alarms on the Apnea Monitor are VERY loud, and the only way to make them stop is to fix it. My husband and i are having to get up almost every hour to fix him doing this, and loosing much sleep. Since he is old enough to roll around now, he can find a way to get a hold of the wires; it seems to be a game to him. My husband jokingly said to buy a baby straight-jacket, so he cant grab the wires….lol (i dont think they make those). What can i do? He has to stay on the monitor until age 1!
(Okay, for those of you who dont know, and Apnea Monitor monitors his heart and breath rate, and if he stops breathing or his hear rate changes, an alarm goes off.)
I am 5’3" 162lbs, and I’m a 27 year old female. According to BMI I am borderline obese, an online test said I should weigh about 120lbs.
I went in for a microfit test today at our gym. They used a skin fold test, tested my blood pressure and heart rate, tested bicep strength, back flexibility and aerobic fitness. My BP was 118/81 (a little elevated for me, but no biggie) and was scored as excellent. Resting heart rate was 71/excellent. Skin fold (body fat percentage) was 27.6, which was rated as fair. I had 54inch reach in back flexibility which scored excellent. Bicep strength was 70lbs and was rated excellent. My aerobic fitness was questionable, since I’m on medication that causes my heart rate to fluctuate, and before I even got on the machine my heart rate slowly went up to 101 beats per minute, and during the test my heart rate went up to 145bpm with little effort (stationary biking at about 50 revolutions per minute) and I scored "needs improvement" on that.
She said other than my aerobic and body fat percentage I had great physical fitness, although she said my body fat percentage still fell into an acceptable range. She put my "healthy weight" at 135.
So I’m confused, does body mass matter more, or does body fat and overall fitness? Am I in bad shape or decent?
I carry most of my fat on my hips, thighs, upper arms and chest (boobs)
Also, I know I’m overweight, that’s obvious when I look in the mirror. But is the overal fitness level ok, and how does it compare to BMI?
im looking for any sort of device whether it be oximeter, watch or something else that is easy to operate to get your heart rate i dont want to use it for exercise i want to keep track of my rate since im on beta blockers..not looking to spend tons of money looking to spend up to 25-30 max..please recommend some
I am looking for a moderately priced HRM for the gym (-0). Any suggestions? Also, places where to purchase them from?
I recently bought a Gold’s Gym exercise bike. It’s a nice bike that has 10 levels of resistance, a heart rate monitor, calorie counter, 20 different work outs ranging from 20-30 minutes and other things such as fans and an mp3 player.
I’m a little unsure about the calorie counter though. It usually claims I burn 80 calories in a 20 minute session going from 1-5 resistance on one of their programs, no matter how hard or fast I peddle. The 30 minute one claims I burnt 130 calories using the same resistance no matter how hard or fast I peddle. I would assume I am losing more by peddling faster but the counter does not go any faster. Could I be burning more or less than it claims?
I’m a 21 year old male. I’m healthy and I’ve run 6 half marathons and 2 marathons. I don’t train very much though…maybe a month beforehand. I have an enlarged left ventricle but this is apparently "normal". When I run my heart rate always skyrockets to 200-210. Even if I’m running slowly I’m rarely ever below 190 (I have a heart rate monitor on my watch).
When I stop I drop to 120bpm in about 30 seconds. My resting heart rate is about 48bpm.
How come I have such a huge difference and why is my heart rate so high even under moderate effort?
I was at the Consumer Electronics Show last week where I decided to film a quick episode to lay out a bit of information on heart rate training. I was helping out Scosche Industries www.scosche.com demonstrate their new Scosche myTREK. At CES, I rode a bike and gave demonstrations on the pulse rate monitor that syncs up with an iphone or ipod touch. Heart rate tracking is important for many reasons while you are working out. As your heart rate goes up, you burn different fuels. Low heart rate zones equal high percentages of fat burning, while higher zones equal lower fat burning %, yet higher glycogen burning zones along with high energy phosphates (ATP, Creatine Phosphate) while in your highest zones. With the Scosche myTREK, you can track all these zones and make sure you are in the exact one you want to be in. You can even get a voice prompt in your ears to go harder or ease up all while listening to your favorite music.
