How to monitor a horse's heart rate.?

For my biology project, I’m studying horse’s heart rates under different conditions. I don’t know how to monitor a horse’s heart rate though. Also all the monitors I saw online, were hundreds of dollars, and I can’t spent nearly that much. Is there a cheaper way to monitor a horse’s heart rate, with out a special horse heart rate monitor?
How should the stethescope be used? I was thinking about using one, but is there more than one spot that should be checked, or just one? How long should I use it (each time) to check the heart rate?

Hey, I used my moms blood monitor to check my blood pressure which is normal 108 62, though I tried to measure good few times and I saw that my pulse is fluctuate eg. One time I measure heart rate shows 77 another time I measure it shows 79, then I measure it again i is 80 , then again 77 etc. Is this mean I have some form of arrhythmia? Or that is normal.. And its really always like that. Thanks (Its probably my anxiety though)

How do I set my new heart rate monitor?

I just bought a new heart rate monitor and set it according to what the directions said. The problem is that I was supposed to stay within 70-80% for my ideal training and the whole time I was running it was showing 100-120% heart rate. Even when I was just walking to warm up it was showing between 80-90%. I’m wondering if I figured out the heart rate wrong. It said to take 220 and subtract your age and from there figure out the percentages. I know the numbers I got for the percentages are correct based on the 220- my age, but something is definitely off. Can anyone help?
* I’m not in perfect shape, but can easily run 5 miles at a fair 10 mph pace
*The day I tried my monitor it was 95 degrees in full sun, but I did stop twice on my 4.5 mile run and grabbed 24 oz. bottle of water to drink and pour on myself for cooling.

Question about heart rate monitor watches.?

Does any company make a strapless wrist watch heart rate monitor that DOES NOT REQUIRE the wearer to touch the watch with fingertips? I participate in endurance distance road biking but don’t like wearing the chest straps. The problem with the strapless wrist watch heart rate monitors, though, is that it requires the rider take the right hand off of the handle bar to touch the watch for 5 seconds or more. I am trying to find a watch that will provide constant monitoring and read out of heart rate without the need to touch the watch with fingertips.

Low heart rate ? Is this normal?

Hi there,

In the past three months I have lost 20 lbs. I work out for 30 minutes a day for 4-5 days a week (pretty strenuous) by doing the Biggest Loser DVDs. I have cut out all the bad crap out of my diet – no soft drinks, less red meat, I hardly ever eat potatoe’s now. Cut out fast food. I have 30 more lbs to loose, so I am far from fit.

I used to have a fairly high heart rate when I would visit the Dr. usually over 100. I recently started monitoring calories burned, ect and over the past few days my heart has consistently been beating at 50 or 51 ?

Is this normal for someone who isn’t physically fit?

Calories burned on Fitness Equipment?

How accurate are the counted calories burned on fitness machines such as the treadmill and elliptical? I know that a heart rate monitor would be more efficient in telling you how many calories you have burned while working out, but if I don’t have one what are my options?

Should I get a second opinion on Low Heart Rate?

I am a 24 year old female of average height and weight. For the past 2 years I have been experiencing fainting episodes and dizzy spells 2 of which have required ambulance rides and hospital visits. These episodes can occur at anytime but most often occur when I am in the shower. I have also been experiencing extreme fatigue that has worsened within the last year. I seem to need a nap everyday to make it through. Additionally, more recently (the past month or so) I have been having night sweats and a feeling of shortness of breath/not being able to breathe in enough air. I have had asthma since I was a baby so this may be completely unrelated to the fainting/dizziness. Before the night sweats and difficulty breathing I saw my primary about the dizzy/fainting episodes and was referred to a cardiologist. I had a normal echocardiogram and wore a monitor for 24 hours. The only remarkable thing from the monitor was that my average heart rate was 47 and dipped as low as 34 when I was asleep. He said that the normal heart rate for someone my age is 60-90 bpm but it is sometimes normal and healthy for physically fit people to have such low heart rates if they are asymptomatic. Well, I am not asymptomatic if I keep passing out right? And while I have exercised and played sports my whole life, I am by no means an incredibly fit athlete. I’m lucky to make it to the gym 2x a week and my workouts are nothing special. So I wouldnt say I was a well trained athlete. I feel like my symptoms are disconnected and I don’t want to make a big deal out of nothing since the cardiologist seemed unconcerned, but would it be crazy to get a second opinon?? I’m getting kind of sick of feeling so tired all the time and obviously don’t enjoy passing out randomly. I’ve also read something about hypothyroidism that seems to connect all these symptoms. I just want to figure out what’s going on. Thoughts???
