Coach Taylor Ramsdell, owner of Chain Fitness, takes MMA fighter Victor Henry through an MMA Conditioning session in preparation for his fight at Tuff-N-Uff “The Future Stars of Mixed Martial Arts”, on March 26, in Las Vegas. This session focuses on muscular endurance while attacking the cardiovascular system. The fast twitch muscle fibers are worked to increase the athlete’s ability to rapidly fire during his fight, through shorts bursts of strength and great force. The athlete’s heart rate was monitored to make sure he was in his target heart rate that the trainer wanted him to be in for maximum results (this particular session – 85%-95% of max heart rate). Reaching the anaerobic threshold and increasing ability to deal with the build-up of lactic acid. Pushing this anaerobic threshold to a higher level delays the exhaustion of the body in the ring. Functional exercises were incorporated to translate to his sport of MMA. CHAIN FITNESS website: ChainFitness.com facebook facebook.com twitter: twitter.com

www.ptaglobal.com PTA Global is a Fitness educational company that embraces the concepts of meeting the client where they need to be met. This entails personalizing their program to THEIR behavior patterns & personality, not just their perceived muscle imbalances or the trainer’s preference. To achieve this, we use a very carefully designed behavior questionnaire system (PDQ). We also embrace the use of heart rate training and monitoring to maximize the effect of the training session. To ensure the best quality of monitoring, we have partnered with Polar. And lastly, we believe that each training session should match the client’s ability, stress level and desire for that day. To accurately guide this process, we have developed one of the most holistic systems that we call the Daily Readiness Observation – found in our Advanced Personal Training Course. Using a POLAR heart rate monitor, calculating calories burned for my height and weight playing light basketball. This equates to about 2000 CALORIES BURNED in a two hour period. note: 1 lb = 3500 cal Your metabolic rate depends on your weight and height, this total with the calories you burn from exercise, menus calorie intake from food (fuel) = calories burned for the day. This simple equation can help you determine how much weight you can lose within a week or a month etc with an exercise routine and diet. Outdoor temperature this day was around 90+ location, Richmond Hill, New York; Forest Park, Jackson Pond. By doing this last summer (summer of 2010) i shed over 40lbs with a low calorie diet. im trying to lose weight by eating healthy food, watching my calorie intake, and being active. i try and do something active for at least 30 mins a day, even if its just walking on the treadmill. well on my treadmill, there is a heart rate monitor chart, and it gives heart rates for your age, and one column is for cardio and the other is for fat loss. the fat loss is a much lower heart rate than the cardio. can someone please explain this to me? i am female, 21 years old, and i weigh 212 pounds, what should be my target heart rate to lose weight? is a cardio heart rate counter productive? what about all the talk of interval training?

I haven’t worked out in over two years..I’m not fat, just skinny..I did some cardio at Planet Fitness for 30min straight. The machine was reading that i had a heart rate of 200bpm which was pretty scary b/c my normal heart rate is usually about 80bpm. The next day, i felt like someone had punched me in the chest. Is this normal?
i’m just starting to workout again after a few month delay due to medical reasons. anyway, i just started walking. i walk only about a half hour for 3-5 days a week. i’m planning to add 5 minutes every week. so since this week is almost ending next week i will workout for 35 minutes a day and so on and so forth. i also want to add my stability ball workout and pilates to the routine. both have weight bearing excercises within the dvds. on the days where it rains, i’m going to use my cardio dvds. eventually i want to have a plan of 5 days for about an hour. i’m working my way up to jogging but that’s going to take time. since i started my walking though i’ve noticed a soreness in my legs which is letting my know i’m walking at a good pace. but is this a good plan? i use a heart rate monitor and it says i’m burning roughly 300 calories, is that enough?
oh i’m 24 and weigh over 200 pounds. glad to say i don’t have high blood pressure, diabetes or high cholesterol. i just got checked for all, guess i can say i’m lucky not to have that.
sorry i forgot to mention my diet is pretty good. i’m a vegetarian and eat alot of veggie based products. whole grains, fennel, tofu and vegetables. i cut down on the snacks and rarely drink soda or high fructose drinks. mostly crystal light, water and i do drink skim milk.
i can’t afford a trainer so i thats why i’m doing my own thing. my doctor is worried about my weight and wants to see a small difference in two months when i go there.
My max heart rate for my body size/female is 194 (or so the websites say). I purchased a hr monitor and wear it during my 60 spinning class. I believe I’ve calculated my resting hr to be around 62 but it is VERY easy to get my hr up. I have definitely gotten it up into the 190s during spinning class (it is rigorous though) but even walking into the gym, doing strength training, etc. gets it up a little too high I think. The last spinning class I took, I monitored the girl’s hr watch next to me and mine seemed to be consistently 20 beats ahead the entire class. If I were to have my hr at the bpm she had, I wouldn’t feel like I got a good workout.
I understand a way to determine whether or not you are in shape is to see how quickly your hr goes down after exercising…but are there other ways also? Am I just completely out of shape because my hr goes up very quickly?
Thanks for the responses – I’ve been taking this spinning class (which are 60 mins long) for several months now…consistently for a year, maybe taking (at most) 1 month off. The problem is that it is only 1 day a week and on average I would maybe do only one other day of cardio during the same week. So I guess taking this intense cardio class only once a week isnt really doing much?
To help be the most productive while working on your cardio, a heart rate monitor can aid you to help with your training. This video will help you maximize your potential with the use of the heart rate monitor
I’m 18 and work out rigorously 5 days a week, lifting weights and lots of cardio. I am interested in possibly getting a heart rate monitor but don’t know where to start. What do they do for you? What do you gain from them? How much do they cost? What is a good brand? Where do I get a good price? Help please.
Will it help with blood circulation?
How does it help with blood circulation?
How do I know if my heart rate is fast enough during exercizing to actually get the benefits of cardio without using a heart rate monitor because its sort of hard to tell my heart rate while running
