BURN 200 CALORIES IN 10 MINUTES!!!

Using a POLAR heart rate monitor, calculating calories burned for my height and weight playing light basketball. This equates to about 2000 CALORIES BURNED in a two hour period. note: 1 lb = 3500 cal Your metabolic rate depends on your weight and height, this total with the calories you burn from exercise, menus calorie intake from food (fuel) = calories burned for the day. This simple equation can help you determine how much weight you can lose within a week or a month etc with an exercise routine and diet. Outdoor temperature this day was around 90+ location, Richmond Hill, New York; Forest Park, Jackson Pond. By doing this last summer (summer of 2010) i shed over 40lbs with a low calorie diet. I have relatively run a fair amount of kilometers throughout my life. I have run a lot in the daily football classes back in school time. I have also occasionally decided to increase my endurance by making daily running exercises. But all came up with no use at all. Until this day, I get very tired to continue after 1 minute of mid-speed running, I can’t possibly run past 2 minutes! But I recently managed to learn that my heartbeat rate is actually the factor that controls my endurance (isn’t this true?). I get tired faster past a particular rate, and it’s obviously a low rate in my case!

Finally, what I came to conclude is that I have to find out at which speed I reach that rate, and walk/run at the speed just before it, so my heartbeat rate remains in a place that doesn’t suck all of my stamina immediately. Theoretically, my endurance will increase slowly this way, which means that my speed/heartbeat-rate ratio will increase.

Is my conclusion right or wrong? And if it is right, should I buy a heartbeat monitor? Is that the correct choice?

Is my heart rate healthy?

In aerobics, my teacher made us wear heart monitors, and the goal was between 135-180, all of us being juniors-seniors. We switched from muscle to cardiac exercises. But for awhile I was at like 205 once we got on treadmills, and used the step aerobic thingy. Im seventeen, so is it better to have a low heart rate but still doing a goodworkout, or a high heartrate with a good workout?
well with the heart rate monitors, it went from 107-119, while i was just standing there. it would beep if I was over 180 or below 135.
i wasnt like, gasping for breathe.
but i could actually feel a workout.
sweating.. not so much. but i felt icky.

When I asked my doctor about weight training, she suggested to not lift anything heavier than 20lbs. That just seems ridiculous to me. I am naturally strong for a woman, and have been lifting heavy for over 10 years. I do plan to go a bit lighter, but limiting myself to 20 lbs would be a wast of time at the gym on most exercises for me.

Has anyone else lifted as usual, or close to during pregnancy? Don’t you think monitoring your heart rate, breathing correctly and being controlled should allow you to lift heavier than 20lbs?
I’m 6 weeks right now. I have had no bleeding thus far. I keep my HR under 140, and average is about 125. I’ve switched to mostly machines too.

Is my heart rate "too" high?

I am a 22 year old female. I weigh 145lbs and I’m 5’7. I am pretty active, eat fairly healthy and JUST got back on my exercises today. I walked on the treatmill for 30 mins at 4-4.7MPH. I used a heart rate monitor and I got all the way up to 195BPM!!!! Is that TOO fast? I didn’t feel like I was overdoing it – but I just kinda toned it down because I didn’t know if I was working too hard! Help?!

Lowering heart rate (jogging)?

When I jog my heart rate seems to get high quick. For example, today I was walking at 3.0 mph (on a treadmill) with my heart rate ranging from 85-105. However, when I raised the speed to 4.6 my heart rate quickly jumps up to 150,160, and even got up to 192 according to my heart rate monitor. Previous days I have tried speeds of 5.2, and 6.0 with similar heart rate results. I am 21 year old male, so my max heart rate is supposed to be around 195-199, thus I stopped because I thought this would not be safe. I weigh 193lbs, and I am not in that good of shape.

Currently I am walking for an hour at a speed of 3.5mph 4,5 times a week. And I am also doing some weight training 2,3 times a week.

Are there any other exercises that I can do (preferabbly at home) that will help lower my heart rate? Or should I just avoid jogging until I am in better shape?

Thanks.

Just started a serious workout (P90X) and am using a heart rate monitor for the first time. I’m 33 years old in somewhat good shape. My MHR should apparently be around 160 BPM. Well I’m almost always in the 170-180 range when doing these exercises. Yesterday I got to 190 and even 200. Should I slow down?

I’m of course completely tired and breathing heavy…etc. But no chest pains and I know when my body needs to rest so I do. But I guess I’m wondering if I should not be working out above my MHR? I like to push myself to the limits but is this dangerous?
