Should I get a second opinion on Low Heart Rate?

I am a 24 year old female of average height and weight. For the past 2 years I have been experiencing fainting episodes and dizzy spells 2 of which have required ambulance rides and hospital visits. These episodes can occur at anytime but most often occur when I am in the shower. I have also been experiencing extreme fatigue that has worsened within the last year. I seem to need a nap everyday to make it through. Additionally, more recently (the past month or so) I have been having night sweats and a feeling of shortness of breath/not being able to breathe in enough air. I have had asthma since I was a baby so this may be completely unrelated to the fainting/dizziness. Before the night sweats and difficulty breathing I saw my primary about the dizzy/fainting episodes and was referred to a cardiologist. I had a normal echocardiogram and wore a monitor for 24 hours. The only remarkable thing from the monitor was that my average heart rate was 47 and dipped as low as 34 when I was asleep. He said that the normal heart rate for someone my age is 60-90 bpm but it is sometimes normal and healthy for physically fit people to have such low heart rates if they are asymptomatic. Well, I am not asymptomatic if I keep passing out right? And while I have exercised and played sports my whole life, I am by no means an incredibly fit athlete. I’m lucky to make it to the gym 2x a week and my workouts are nothing special. So I wouldnt say I was a well trained athlete. I feel like my symptoms are disconnected and I don’t want to make a big deal out of nothing since the cardiologist seemed unconcerned, but would it be crazy to get a second opinon?? I’m getting kind of sick of feeling so tired all the time and obviously don’t enjoy passing out randomly. I’ve also read something about hypothyroidism that seems to connect all these symptoms. I just want to figure out what’s going on. Thoughts???

What's up with my fast heart rate?

For the past year-ish, I have been a mild fitness/health nut. I stay active, eat really healthy, and workout for *at least* 1 hour (usually 2) every day. It’s all kickbutt workouts, too! I weight train and always have cardio in my schedule. I don’t smoke or drink and I get at least 6 hours of sleep every night. In other words, staying healthy is a top priority.

I just measured my heart rate because despite my active lifestyle, I’ve always been in the 90-100 bpm range. I was at 100 again! Also, it seems as if when I inhale, it speeds up considerably.

I’m a 20-year-old female, 5’6" and 120 pounds. Is my heart rate something I need to be concerned about? Whenever I go to the doctor’s office, he checks my pulse for like 30 seconds and doesn’t say anything about it, and when I ask, he says I just need to exercise more – but I’m a freaking exercise addict. Any input would be helpful. Thanks!

What Fitness Watch to get?

I’m looking for a fitness watch and i’m not sure where to start looking. I don’t have any background knowledge on these but i do find these watches can be useful from what i hear. I’m looking for something thats capable of tracking/recording running pace/distance with a GPS, a calorie counter, heart rate monitor, and perhaps something that can keep track of all this for other sports (basketball, football) and workouts (lifting). I know its standard now to have watch with GPS for runners but i’m also interested to see if a watch can do the same with other sports and physical activities. I’ve seen the Garmin offers a wide range of watches (The Forerunner series) but i just wanted to know if anyone knows of one in particular of any brand that can do all that i list above.

Im looking for a indoor Heart rate monitor that counts calories during my crossfit workouts and all I want is a chest trap and not with a foot pod.

What is the best heart rate target zone for optimum fat burning while doing cardio? I know it goes by age and I’m 40 years old/female/weigh 140. Also how long does one need to keep this rate up for optimum results? I usually work out for 30 minutes of cardio and my heartrate ranges from 150 – 160 bpm. I alternate biking and treadmill and try to workout everyday. Would it be much benefit to up the workouts to 45 minutes? Is it the more the better?

Response to my coach's disappointed email?

My cross country coach emailed me today basically telling me that I was a failure and that he was disappointed in me, and that my attitude needed a wake-up call. I am sending an email in response to him, trying to kind of redeem myself and say that I will try to be better. THis is my rough draft: Opinions? Is it too defensive and excuse-y or good to redeem myself bc I wasn’t trying to be amusing and my coach accused me of being "amused’ when I couldn’t remember my heart rate zones.

Coach,
I didn’t at all mean to sound like I was amused or something when I couldn’t remember my heart rate zones. I was feeling bad inside but I was trying not to show it because basically everyone around me was listening in I didn’t want everyone to know that I was in trouble and that I had the coach angry with me. I’m very sorry that I hadn’t looked at the heart rate zones chart yet this summer, I don’t even know why I hadn’t, maybe because since I hadn’t used the heart rate monitor last year I assumed I wouldn’t be wearing it to all of the practices this year either. But I looked at the chart as soon as I got home yesterday and I know my zones and they make sense now. I will try to be more actively using the heart rate monitor to improve the quality of my workouts.
I wasn’t trying to be a waste of effort, I was actually thinking that my workouts were going better than the other summers and I had managed to do my paperwork right, but I can see where I haven’t been fully focused in my effort.
And yes, your email was pretty blunt… it did make me feel pretty bad about myself, but I suppose it was called for.
And I realized as soon as I got to practice that Thursday that my Message to Garcia paragraph was pitifully small and I didn’t realize everyone else’s were going to be so long. I’m sorry about that also.

[thats it. also how should I end the email. Like, Thankyou for the wake up call? or something? Idk I don’t really want to thank him for making me cry but how else can I end it?

How Accurate is this Heart Rate Calculator?

http://www.triathlontrainingblog.com/calculators/calories-burned-calculator-based-on-average-heart-rate/

Age: 18
Gender: Male
Weight: 150lbs
AVG HR: 165 BPM
Duration: 100 minutes
VO2Max: 45ml/kg/min (I don’t know my VO2Max, so I used the lowest it could be based on age, which apparently an average untrained male at 18 years would be around 45)

It tells me that I burned 1403 kcal after this workout.

For my workouts, I love to play around 50-60 songs of heavy DDR DAILY on endless mode in sets of 15 songs (approximately 25 minutes) because I love the game and it is a great way for me to exercise, which it has helped me lose 55-60lbs over the past 4 years even with my high calorie intake. Since I do not use a bar and prefer to introduce arm and hip movements into my games for extra fun and to better simulate real dancing, I usually keep a consistent heart rate of around 160-180 bpm. (I don’t know necessarily if this is accurate because I do not own a heart rate monitor, so I had to estimate from comparing my heart rate to an online metronome the second I would get off an easier song and then a harder song)

I don’t know if I am really burning that many calories, which I honestly believe it is more around 1000~1100kcal at the most. Am I really burning 1400? I know there is no true way to calculate the amoutn of calories you have burned and that heart rate calculators can be good at estimates, but how well is the correlation with this calculator?

Resting heart rate staying the same…?

When I wasn’t exercising a lot (fitness swimming class 2-3 days a week), my RHR was 56.

Right now I have soccer conditioning 4 days a week. The workouts are 2 hours long and really intense. I’ve lost quite a bit of fat and gained a lot of muscle, but my RHR is still 56.

Isn’t it supposed to get lower as I get healthier? Should I give it more time? We’ve only been conditioning for about a month.
I’m 15, if that helps.

Which kind of heart rate monitor should I get?

One with a chest strap? Or one that’s just the watch? I really just want to track calories burned during workouts (aerobics, zumba, etc.)

Heart Rate Monitor Watch for Swimming?

I am a very committed swimmer and am really getting serious about my workouts. I need a STRAPLESS HRM watch that i can use in the pool to check how hard i’m working. I’ve looked at some products but i’m not sure what to get or if the product will be worth what it is. I’ve seen some brands such as Mio or Polar. Any help?

what does tune or tune in mean in this sentence?

this is about serious training for endurance athletes
level four training is perfect for simultaneously monitoring the three variables of heart rate , pace , and perceived exertion. these workouts require you to tune in to the physiological cues that indicate the level of work at the threshould between aerobic and anaerobic effort.

how long will it take to start loosing weight?

Sorry for being longwinded but I have to fully explain what going on to get an answer.

Now I’m not new to working out and exercise I have been trying to lose weight for about 6 years now and all I seem able to do is to hold my current weight and when I give up I put on another 20lbs or so.
I weight 240 lbs and I have been on an intense workout regiment for the last 3 weeks. I have been working out for months but just started this regiment 3 weeks ago.

I go to the gym and train on the elliptical for 1 hour 5 to 7 times a week. I have done no less than 5 times a week. The elliptical allow me to put in my weight and age. So even though I know it’s not 100% accurate about how many calories I burn but I know it’s somewhat close. I after 1 hour and a pretty high resistance I burn 1,000+ calories every time I step foot on the machine. I also wear a heart rate monitor with chest strap and I’m careful not to train too hard or too little I keep my heart rate around 160 to 170 rpm for the full hour. I do other things in the gym as well. I’m trying to rehab shin splints that popped up when I tried to run while being too fat. Had physical therapy for weeks nothing is working, but that another story. I also have a job where I’m up and about around 90% of the day. I where a pedometer and I usually clock 10,000-12,000 steps before I leave work and if I wear it to the gym I clock 20,000+ steps for the day. My workouts are so intense I lose about 1.2 to 1.5 pounds of sweat during the workout. I weigh before and after on a very accurate scale.

I’m eating about 1,500 to 2,000 calories a day.

An average day:
7:00am breakfast trail mix- nuts, granola, dried cranberries and raisins.
9:00am light yogurt-70 calories
11:30am turkey sandwich whole wheat no mayo and fruit
4:00pm- granola bar and fruit
6:00pm chicken breast and veggies (never any carbs for dinner)
I drink about a gallon a water a day.
From what I understand my basil metabolic rate(calories burned while being alive for 24 hours) is about 10 for calories for every pound I weigh. So for me is about 2,400 calories burned just for being alive.

So here the math:
(food intate)- (metabolic rate)= -400 (calorie deficit)+-1000 = -1,400 deficit almost daily not counting what I burn at work.
2,000 –2,400= -400+ -1000= -1400

Why am I not losing weight is 3 weeks too soon to expect results from this? What am I doing wrong? The only thing I can think of is doing 2 hrs of cardio and a hour of weight lifting a day, but my wife already thinks I’m in the gym too much and still have nothing to show for it please help. I actually gained 4.4 pounds since I started all of this. Again I’m getting to the point that I want to give up but I know I will be 260lbs if I let up on it. Also I’ve been to the doctor and they said my thyroid tested fine.

Why is it not working :(?

I am 20, 5’8" and 14 stone.
I am doing Jillian Michaels workouts at the moment. I have all her DVD’s and her biggest loser ones too and I do them all in rotation so my body doesnt become used to a specific exercise routine.
I exercise 6, sometimes 7, days a week. I eat a healthy diet and never above 1300 calories per day.
I bought a heart rate monitor yesterday and used it with her 40 min "banish fat boost metabolism" workout which is all cardio. It told me I had burned 400 calories and 1.82 ozs of fat. I don’t know whether this is good or not?
Also, since doing these workouts my legs have got rock solid…it’s brilliant! They’ve really toned up. But I don’t seem to be losing any weight on the scales…or toning up anywhere else on my body. It seems to just be my calves, quads and hammys. My inner thighs are still flabby. As is my stomach and arms and I still have back fat (by the way I have been working out for 3 weeks now). I would have expected to see a little more improvement than what I have? Why am I not losing weight or toning up anywhere but my legs?

How are the following different or better?

CONSTANT EFFORT: Perform an aerobic exercise for one hour maintaining an aerobic heart rate the whole time.

VARIED EFFORT: Perform an aerobic exercise for one hour maintaining an aerobic heart rate but periodically increasing effort to a sprint.

According to a Yahoo "self-editor"

http://health.yahoo.com/experts/healthieryou/5155/fast-workouts-that-really-work/

"You can get an hour’s worth of fitness and calorie burning in 20 short minutes." The article continues:

Pick any cardio you like (running, swimming, the elliptical trainer). Warm up for 2 minutes at a moderate pace, then sprint for 30 seconds at the highest intensity you can muster. Slow down and do 90 seconds at a catch-your-breath recovery pace. Repeat eight times. You’ll torch more calories in less time, while you burn fat faster."

Why does my HR skyrocket when doing planks?

I’m in my 20‘s, reasonably fit (I exercise 5-6 days/week with a mixture of cardio, weights and yoga), have never smoked, have no known health issues, and have been keeping an active and healthy lifestyle for years.
Recently I bought a heart rate monitor and have been using it during my workouts, and I’ve noticed something which worries me. Whenever I do plank work for my abs or do pushups, my heart rate will be plodding along at 90bpm to110bpm, and then all of a sudden skyrocket into the 200’s, so I stop the exercise, and my HR goes back down to where it was within one to two seconds. When this happens, I don’t feel any different, and my breathing remains steady. But this happens very reliably when I do this type of exercise, and no other time. Normally, I would just think there is something wrong with the monitor, but my mom was diagnosed with a serious heart condition when she was in her 30‘s.
Basically I’m wondering if I’m getting worried over nothing, or if this might be something that I should seriously look into. Has anyone else had this kind of experience, or know what might be going on?

Planning to buy one of the Suunto Heart rate monitors for my workouts but getting a bit confused between the specifications of t3 & t4 models. Guys please help me to find out the main differences and which one is better? Thank you so much in advance

Why would my resting heart rate be so high?

I bought a heart monitor to maximize the effectiveness of my workout.I was told to get my resting heart rate in order to figure out my target heart rate during workouts.
My resting heart rate was between 111 and 118 while sleeping.Whilemy watching t.v. or sitting at the computer heart rate is 65-85.Isn’t my resting heart rate supposed to be lower than my up and awake heart rate?
Is there something wrong with me?
